Canary Wharf! Evening Photo Walk (think Blade Runner) – Thu 12th Aug 7.00pm

We have just managed to secure permission to photograph on Canary Wharf – this is usually strictly prohibited.

Canary Wharf at Night by SE9_London on Flickr

Canary Wharf at Night by SE9_London on Flickr

There are a number of limitations to this shoot though that we must adhere to in order to photograph there:

  1. Outdoor photography only
  2. Handheld equipment only
  3. Not to photograph building entrances
  4. Not to photograph security arrangements in place
  5. Not for professional use, re-sale or publication. Amateur purposes only.

By coming on the walk you must agree to do so under the above terms.

If you would like to print out the permit to take with you, then you can download it here.

The permit stipulates that we can take photography on the Canary Wharf site from 7 – 9 pm, which gives us a decent amount of time.

If you would like a detailed map of the area you can download it here.

Sunset, Evening, Photo Walk!

Location: The Thames and Embankment.

Meeting Point: Victoria Embankment, Blackfriars, Millenium Pier 19.30

It was another great turnout last week for our Night Photowalk with some of our regular photowalkers but great to see so many new faces.

Despite it being a cloudy night and not able to get any sunset shots, the night shots collated are superb. Well done to everyone who patiently waited for the sun to set (around 9.00pm) to catch the Houses of Parliament in a glorious golden light.

I saw some great images on the evening which are still stored on cameras somewhere. Please share your images with everyone on Pix.ie as we appreciate every image taken, even the ones taken an iphone!

Meeting up in Battersea, 8 miles away was a bit ambitious but well done who made it to the revised pub in Vauxhall. We’ll keep the walks a bit shorter in future!

Well it was a very tough choice for our favourite shot this walk… So many stunning images, London really is hard to beat at night. We thought though that for it’s striking composition, simplicity and originality this was our favourite shot, BIG Ben by Xerophytes.

Location: Greenwich, meeting point: Outside the Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Greenwich Church Street 12 midday.

It was a scorching hot day for our May photo walk, pushing 30 degrees! Despite that (knowing mad dogs and Englishmen… because of that!) we had another cracking turnout with people again travelling from all parts of the country to join us for the walk.

Big thank you to the Old Royal Naval College who kindly gave us permission to photograph inside the stunning Painted Hall.

Another really strong field to choose from again as we try to decide our photo of the walk and other top shots, well here goes…

(If I don’t have your full name or the photo name, please email me the correct details :-)

Our photo of the walk again, is by Chris Beach! Congratulations Chris on this cracking shot that sums up the fun in the park and puts it in the context of the location with the observatory looming in the background:

Location: Camden, meeting point: Outside SuperDrug, opposite Camden Tube on Camden High Street, 12 midday.

It was a stunning day for the walk and our best turn out yet!

Camden turned out to be a great choice for a photo walk, inspiration from all angles.

Really lovely to see so many new faces (and serious talent!) joining us on the walk.

The usual task of picking our favourite shot and top 5 (always seems to turn out to be top 7/8 ;-) ) has been made particularly tough this time thanks the the high standard of photography.

So…. drum roll…. Our photo of the walk this week is… All You Can Eat by Chris Beach!

Location: Hyde Park, meeting at the Serpentine Bar and Kitchen, 12 midday.

It was grey, wet and cold and yet we got some stunning shots. Moody skies abound in this walks round up – showing you can get inspiration from the dullest of days.

We walked along the serpentine, crossed the river and headed for the Albert Memorial before the weather getting the better of us and retreating to the pub!

Great to see some more new faces this time with Will, Tim and Rupert all joining us for their first walk.

Again another tough week to decide our fav shot but Pix.ie helping by voting one of Mikey Fletch’s shots as photo of the day!  This is also the second time that Mikey’s been our pick of the bunch so he’s our most decorated walker to date :-) Congratulations Mikey!

Location: Brick Lane and Shoreditch meeting at the Ten Bells Pub, 12 midday.

Well it did not snow in the end and mercifully did not rain either! My hands are still frozen in the shape of a camera though.

We had a fantastic turn up, fifteen of us at one point!

We loved seeing all the funky different styles of cameras people brought – we even had a vintage Polaroid (see pic below)!

Brick Lane proved a great location, plenty of interesting people and places to point a camera at.

Don’t forget to upload your photos after the walk to our Pix.ie photo group so we can see all the shots and keep a record of the walks: London Photo Walk Upload Page

It was a tough call for our top shot this walk but with the help of Pix.ie’s founder Marcus Mac Innes we’ve chosen the following…

Location: Southbank, meeting on the green outside the London Eye. 12.00 Midday Sun 29th Nov

We could not have chosen a more miserable, wet day for the first photo walk! So well done to the ruddy team that turned up and put a brave face on things, looking at the pics it was certainly worth it.

It was such a fun day and so great to meet everyone, chat, snap and walk.

We ended up spending half the time sheltering in pubs/bars and the other half walking up and down the Southbank.

We ended the walk with a trip in the fantastic London Eye. Big thanks go to Anna Brown and the London Eye team for kindly donating a pod, it really was a memorable way to end the first photo walk.

Here’s our pick for favourite shot – Too Wet to Fly by Mikey Fletch:
